THE KICK

DER KICK

Directed by Andres Veiel

SATURDAY JANUARY 13 2:30PM CASTRO

This screen adaptation for two actors is based on the much-reported story of the torture and murder of 16-year old Marinus Schönbert that occurred in 2002 in the small village of Potzlow in Brandenburg. The three perpetrators had imitated scenes of the 1998 Hollywood film „American History X.” To get a better understanding of how this could happen, Andres Veiel and Gesine Schmidt’s screenplay draws on more than twenty conversations conducted with two of the perpetrators, as well as the victims’ relatives, friends and neighbors. Susanne-Marie Wrage and Markus Lerch, who also performed these roles in the theatrical production for Berlin’s Maxim Gorky Theatre, convey aspects of this nightmarish story more profoundly than perhaps reenactments could.
