FRIDAY JANUARY 12 7PM CASTRO
Just as Michael turns fifteen, his mom’s boyfriend expels the two from his upscale home in Berlin’s posh Zehlendorf district, and they find themselves moving to the crime-ridden immigrant-dense Neukölln district. On the first day at his new school, Michael is beaten up by gang leader Erol and his boys. They are making sure that Michael understands a few ground rules. A quick learner, Michael soon emerges from being intimidated and scared to becoming a drug courier, thanks to his smarts and “honest” face. Now protected from gang violence, Michael nevertheless faces challenges on Berlin’s “mean streets” that land him, as the opening sequence shows, in custody.
