THE ICE BOMB
DIE EISBOMBE
Directed by Oliver Jahn
FRIDAY JANUARY 16 3:30 PM CASTRO
One day a large chunk of strangely colored ice crashes through the roof just as the Schuhmann-Weils are about to have dessert. Jörg, Beate, and their two sons Tom and Günter flee to their backyard underground bunker until the house can be decontaminated and things can get back to the family’s more normal level of neurotic environmental consciousness. For Beate, normal means protecting her sons by immediately throwing out frozen vegetables that a news report says may be contaminated with pesticide. For Tom, normal means constantly checking for allergens and walking under an umbrella no matter what the weather. Just as Tom is taking his first tentative steps into adulthood by beginning a job, moving away from home, and dating Lucie, his mom descends into a deepening bunker eco-anxiety. --Petra Wehle
