Jörg Immendorff, who ranks among the most important of contemporary German artists, died in 2007 after a 9-year-long struggle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. This documentary records his final two years as he continues, despite being lamed by the disease, to create large-scale masterpieces through assistants. During this time he also remains professor at Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he had been a student of Joseph Beuys decades earlier. Interviews with the people who knew him best provide background and historical context to his artistic expression that spans personal and political topics through performance, paintings, and sculpture. Filmmaker Graef aims to both convey the man and the legend for which life and art were inseparable.
