CLOUD 9

WOLKE 9

Directed by Andreas Dresen

SATURDAY JANUARY 17 6:30PM CASTRO

CLOUD 9’s opening scene involving an elderly man and woman having sex sets the tone for an intense, emotional, and surprising story about a love triangle. Inge’s life with Werner, her husband of thirty years, has settled into a comfortable routine. Werner is retired but Inge still does alterations in their faceless East Berlin apartment. One day client Karl takes notice of Inge in a way that powerfully reawakens her passionate longings. As she begins to allow herself to follow her heart’s desire, family reactions test Inge’s poignant struggle to stay true to her newfound self. The mature cast sets enduring questions in the final decades of life. Beautifully acted and directed.
“Dresen’s work has a hypnotically stripped-down style...CLOUD 9 is much like his tonally perfect SUMMER IN BERLIN, which also involved three ordinary people tripping over the selfishness inherent in the act of falling in love.” --Cameron Bailey, Toronto International Film Festival
